A Time To Reap

When Willow was five years old, she died. It was only for a little while, and everyone around her called it a miracle that she walked away unscathed. She wasn’t so sure. Ever since then, she’s felt like she was living on borrowed time. Now, at thirty-six, she’s trying to knock one of the many things off her bucket list by climbing the mountain she grew up seeing from her bedroom window. However, as a strange feeling makes her disconnect from her rigging and the whole setup plummets to the ground, she feels like there are other factors at play.

Still feeling like she’s not alone, Willow demands whatever is there to show itself. Vezriel, one of the people who was at her car accident but no one else could see, appears to her. He tells her he’s there to take her to Heaven, that he should have delivered her there thirty years ago. She tells him she’s not going anywhere until she finishes her list.

After some negotiation, the two settle on a deal. Vezriel will help Willow complete everything on her bucket list. There are rules, of course. She may not add anything, and she has a week to fit it all in. At the end of that week, she’ll come willingly with Vezriel to Heaven.

The two of them set off on an adventure. As Willow prepares to die, Vezriel gets to live. But what happens when they grow close? How do they cope with the fact that at the end of those seven days, Heaven is going to tear them apart as Vezriel moves on to his next assignment?

Tropes:
he’s supposed to take her to Heaven; she makes him help her complete her bucket list; angel of death x human; time is running out; he’ll be the death of her, literally; as she prepares to die, he gets to live

Content Warnings
Dark Humor: The story is about the last week of the FMC’s life. Throughout the story, she uses dark humor to cope with her impending death.
Car Accident: At the beginning of the story, the FMC has been struck by a car when she was five and dies as a result. She is brought back by an angel, not the MMC.
Death: This story is mostly about death and dying. Different ways of dying are mentioned, including suicide, overdose, and dying while mountain climbing. There are lots of discussions of death and mortality, facing one’s mortality, having to end the life of the person you love, and about the afterlife and Heaven.
Child Death: Temporary, on page. The MMC is an angel of death/reaper. He’s there to reap her soul but another angel puts her soul back into her body and heals her.
Questionable Biblical Lore: I’ve taken some liberties with the biblical lore.
Misunderstanding of Boundaries: The MMC appears in the shower while the FMC is nude. A short time later, he drops his glamour and appears nude, shocking the FMC. As an angel, he doesn’t realize it’s inappropriate at first.
